Reminder: We need to share one cart between two classes. This means that we have 10 devices every day.

We will all read and track our reading every day. Then some of us will work on devices and some of us will work on our reading and writing.

Here is a schedule for when you will have access to a device.

Read your independent novel for 20 mins.

Today we will review annotating for non-fiction and creating a research note.

Group 3

1) Update your reading tracking sheet. Make sure you add in all the pages read since the last time you updated it.

2) Go to the assignment tracking sheet to see what you should have done by now.

3) Work on your Global Perspectives editing. Use this sheet to guide you. When you are done, submit the sheet via the Assignment Submission page (found on this blog).

Remember, when using online docs, make a copy of the document so that you can write on it.

4) Choose a second page to edit. Review the sign-up sheet to be sure no one else has chosen the same page.

Group 2

1) Update your reading tracking sheet. Make sure you add in all the pages read since the last time you updated it.

2) Complete Reading Log #1

3) Write: Prompt #1

We will be using the reading tracking sheet to keep us on track for our reading goals.

Today,  you  will wrap up the work for this week.

First we will share our thinking on the article ““Truth and Reconciliation Commission urges Canada to confront ‘cultural genocide’ of residential schools.” Revise #5 using the anchor in class. You need to hand these in by the end of class.

Revise #5 using the anchor in class. You need to hand these in by the end of class if you haven’t already.

Complete your sign up for Sesame and the Global Perspectives wiki (see you email to activate).

Add your first “snap” (or comment) to tell me what your weekly reading goal is.

Send me an image or avatar that will represent you in Sesame.

Complete the wiki scavenger hunt and submit via this website.

Choose a page on the Global Perspectives wiki to edit, and sign up on the clipboard.

And finally, you need to begin editing your chosen wiki page. See the anchor chart for what types of things to edit.

Have a terrific weekend!

Remember to read!

February 5, 2016

Welcome Back!

I post to this site every day so it’s very important to check if you’re ever absent.

Today we are going to choose some independent reading books. You may read fiction or non-fiction.

To help you pick your book, you will complete a Snapshot Book Review first.

  1.  Choose 4 random books from different sections of the library.
  2. Preview the texts and complete the review sheet.
  3. Hopefully, one of the books you review will be a keeper. If not, repeat steps 1 & 2.

Once you’ve signed out your book, please read silently. At some point this period, I want you to come and see me and enter your email and name to join Sesame. Then, go to https://sesamehq.com and log in. Post a comment (or Snap). In your comment, tell me what book you’ve chosen and tell me what your first impressions of this book are.
