Learning Goals: Set your own personal learning goal.

You can write down what you will do/accomplish in class, but you must then connect that doing to learning.

1. Reading your novel (if you have not yet finished the first third of your book)
2. Writing about your thinking—-notes or prompts or stickies

Learning Goals:

I am learning to

  • make interpretations from reading, ask critical questions, uncover perspectives, and engage in conversations to form conclusions.
  • use evidence to support my ideas
  • look for connections between my research and themes in novels I read

Today we will begin by meeting with our Literature Circle groups to prepare for our first discussion on our chosen texts. You will meet with your group to look over the different roles that can be used to facilitate the discussion.

Together, view the document Literature Circle Note: Overview of the Roles. Choose roles in your group. Each group MUST have a Discussion Director and an Illuminator.

Next, you will go back to you homeroom and prepare for your role on Friday. Sit with others that have the same role as you (reading different books) to complete the Literature Circle Notes for your chosen role (handout). You might notice the notes look very similar to a 40/60 note!

When you have your notes ready and prepared some questions for your discussion, you will work on one of the options below:

– Reading your novel (if you have not yet finished the first third of your book)
– Planning your build in Minecraft/other
– Peer Edit/ Revise and post book review to Goodreads group
– Copy and continue adding evidence and comments to Learner’s Tool Kit (Due today!)
– Add comments to D2L – What is reconciliation? Ideas for planning/building
– Research notes and annotations from your first independent article
– Quizlet – practice vocabulary
– Update tracking sheet

Learning Goals

use evidence to support my ideas
look for connections between my research and themes in novels I read

I will be holding assessment conferences while you are working.

Today, we are looking for connections!

First, we will write a response to “What is reconciliation to me?” in the D2L community.

Include one link to an article or video to support your idea. You could link to an article you have read in this course or one from another course.
Comment on one other person’s definition.

Next, we will continue to read our novels.
Track reading
Write….What is the big idea in your novel at this point? Does the big idea connect to the theme of starting over?

Finally, please complete your option sheets for next year.
