Review Learning Goals and Success Criteria

We are learning how voice is intentionally constructed.
We are learning how our observations when reading can inform our own writing decisions.
We are learning that there is a relationship between ideas and how they are crafted.
We are learning to use the writing process to help us become effective writers.

I can identify voice in texts
I can explain what is occurring in a text makes that voice evident
I can explain the connection between the ideas and voice
I can describe the voice present in my writing
I can experiment with a variety of techniques that create voice in writing
I can make intentional decisions that impact the voice in my writing for a specific audience and purpose.

Rank the Success Criteria from most understood to least.
Explain what you know about the Success Criteria in the #1 spot.

Work on revising writing.

Writer’s Workshop

Read the essay, “What colour is your beadwork, Joseph Boyden?” and at your tables discuss the following…..

What is the point the author is making?
What type of power is being talked about in this essay? What is the abuse?

Let’s unpack the essay. How does McMahon construct his argument?

Now, let’s consider how McMahon uses writing techniques to make his point.

ABUSE OF POWER

Read Self-selected Novels

Evidence of Learning Document–Make a copy and add it to your ENG3C folder. Share your copy of the document with me via the Assignment Submission page. Begin to work on completing the document at home or in homeroom. You will have classtime to work on it from June 4 – 8 (when it is due). If you plan on being away that week or if you need to complete many items, then working on the document ahead of time will be necessary. The evidence of learning document represents 70% of the course mark.
