  • Paraphrase—identified
  • Audience
  • Purpose
  • Summary— 2-3 sentences

  • Read “Canada is hailed for its tolerance but is it ready to confront its racism?”
  • Annotate using Hypothes.is:
    • Decide on a purpose question and add it to the article (see my example);
    • Highlight the thesis statement;
    • Highlight text that answers your purpose question and annotate with your thinking;
    • Identify at least three challenging words or unknown concepts/facts and annotate with definitions and/or explanations;
    • Make connections to ideas in the text and other texts or the world by including links in at least one annotation;
    • Ask questions of the text;
    • Comment on at least two other annotations.
  • Make a research note
    • Assess your research note using this checklist;
    • Submit the note and the checklist to the Assignment Submission page;
    • Complete the Reading for Meaning sheet #2 and submit it to the Assignment Submission page.
