Week of February 20, 2017

Reading: As always we will begin with reading, tracking our reading, and noticing and noting something about what we have read.

Conferencing

Reflection on your learning-to-date in your notebooks:

  1. What do you think about your reading progress? What have you been noticing about your use of reading strategies?
  2. What about your use of web tools? What tools are new to you? What tools do you like using?

Online collaboration….View this screencast. Follow the instructions.

What does reconciliation mean to you?

Course summative work:

Evidence of Learning Document: Final Edition 2016—Due June 17

Incorporates the four threads of the course:

  1. #craftreconciliation (has its own rubric)
  2. literature reading, notes, and conversations
  3. research and report writing
  4. thinking and reflecting on your skills and strategies for learning

Novel Research Report—Due June 22

Exam—June 27

Self-Assessing feedback: Now what?

Once you all of the thinking about your learning completed on your Evidence of Learning document, review it. Ask yourself:

Do I have evidence of learning for each overall expectation?

What does the evidence say about where I am in my learning?

Does it show that I have broad-based expertise in each of the 4 categories: Oral communication, Reading, Writing, Media Studies? Level 4

Does it show that I have considerable skill across the 4 categories: Oral communication, Reading, Writing, Media Studies? Level 3

Does it show that I have some areas of strength, but that in some of the 4 areas I still have some confusion and/or struggle? Level 2

Does it show that I have confusion/struggle in many areas of the course? Level 1

Now, within that level decide on a percentage mark.

You may feel that there is overlap between this thinking and the reflective blog/Sesame post that you need to write for your evidence of learning document. There likely is. That reflection on your listening/speaking, reading, writing, and production of media text skills/use of strategies will likely clarify for you the level at which you are currently working.

Learning Goal:
I am learning to
Set a purpose for listening
Use a variety of listening strategies to understand information and ideas
Identify the purpose and audience of media text
Identify the various conventions and techniques of a media text

Today is our FINAL Google Hangout: Please complete a final Listening – Google Hangout Assessment.

We will discuss:
What did you craft and explain how it represents your vision of reconciliation?
What did you learn, or ‘reflect on your learning’ throughout this project?
What is your final ‘take home message’ or hope for the future?

Next, we will consider media analysis.
Why did we choose a Google Hangout over Skype?

Now you consider the movie poster. What are the codes and conventions of the movie poster?

Identify the audience for each poster and how you know
Identify the purpose of the movie poster and how you know

Learning Goals:

I am learning to

make interpretations from reading, ask critical questions, uncover perspectives, and engage in; conversations to form conclusions;
use evidence to support my ideas;
look for connections between my research and themes in novels I read.

We will begin by finalizing our preparations for our literature circle meeting #3.

We will meet with our Lit Circle groups to hold our third discussion. You will need your prepared notes for your role in the group and your novel. You might also want to have your Theme Graphic Organizer from yesterday handy.

Your Discussion Director will start, and each group member will have a chance to ask and respond to questions. (15min)

Post discussion, you will  reflect and assess how you did in your discussion today. (Include your notes)

Reflecting on #craftreconciliation

Finally, today I would like you to reflect on your learning in #craftreconciliation.
