Big Ideas/Essential Skills for this course: Language and Power

Course Driving Questions: 

  1. How is our understanding of culture and society constructed through and by language?
  2. How can language be powerful?
  3. In what ways are language and power inseparable?
  4. How might reading disrupt your understanding of yourself and the world?

Academic Essential Skills and Workflow questions:

  1. What are the tools you need to have to be successful in high school?
  2. What academic skills do you have? 
  3. What workflow works best for you?
  4. What is the role of feedback in your writing process?

Communication and literacy skills questions:

  1. What does the research process look like? How do you gather, organize and present ideas?
  2. How does the writing process help you become an effective writer?
  3. How does sharing our thinking about the reading help us dive more deeply into the text?
  4. How does an author’s use of conventions and technique help create meaning in media?
  5. How does reflecting on the process of learning help you become a better learner?

First, we’ll consider the Course Driving questions using  Padlet to make predictions about the questions.

Next, you will reflect on all of the driving questions in OneNote now, at mid-term, and at the end of the school year. (check your Outlook for a link to the class notebook).

Finally, you will set some personal goals.
